Aspiring Artists Retreat

A retreat full of watercolors and pottery in a beautiful setting:

Friday, May 25 - Tuesday, May 29, 2012

Common Ground Center is proud to announce a new program to our 2012 lineup: a four day program for aspiring artists. Come start the summer off right during Memorial Day Weekend by immersing yourself in art!

Veronica Gadbois and Jackie Mangione, two long time community members and talented artists, will be leading workshops in pottery and watercolors. In the mornings, participants will learn firsthand from our instructors. All skill levels are welcome!

In the afternoons, we'll be venturing off site to visit local artists' studios. You'll meet the artist and see their studio in action! This is in conjunction with the Vermont Spring Open Studio Weekend. Read more about this here.

Our 700-acre site, nestled between the Hogback and Green Mountains, will provide hours of inspiration. Go on a hike on one of our trails, explore the nooks and crannies of Lewis Creek, or simply take in the view from a hammock on the Eco-Lodge porch. Get ready to feel more connected with nature and yourself as you practice and perfect a new craft. There will also be opportunity to spend time with other creative folks in your workshops, studio tours, in the evenings, and during mealtimes. We serve mostly local, organic foods made fresh on site. Learn more about: Food, Accommodations, Our Site.

The program fees - listed on our registration form - include all lodging fees, program costs, and meals. Download the registration form here and please call the office if you are interested in participating (1-800-430-2667). Participants 16 and older are welcome. Camp Common Ground campers are eligible for a discount package.

Our staff...

Jackie Mangione - Watercolors - Jackie is an artist that has been showing and selling her art at juried craft shows, farmers’ markets, and local venues for years. She enjoys teaching because she believes that each one of us holds a creative spark and with insight, instruction, and encouragement, we awaken our own unique potential to make art. She paints and teaches art classes at her studio in The Soda Plant in Burlington, Vermont. She has taught fabric dying, stenciling, watercolor and printmaking at Camp Common Ground for over 10 years. Visit her website at: www.jackiemangione.com.

Veronica Gadbois -  Veronica Gadbois received her BA in studio art from the University of Lowell in 1990. Her focus in school was painting, drawing, and sculpture with three semesters dedicated to clay. She completed her M.Ed and began teaching art and French in 2000. Even though her years of teaching and creating art while raising her son have kept her busy, she has always found time to volunteer with community projects. She has been an active member of the Common Ground community for the past 14 years; offering her talents as an art instructor and as a cook. Veronica is looking forward to working with participants as they enhance their skills with handbuilding and wheel throwing clay.
